Routine and Severe Duty Maintenance

The core of many important things in life is maintenance; relationships, jobs/careers, property, they all require a certain level of maintenance. As children we are gradually given more and more to call our own, from our toys, to our clothes, our rooms, and so on, until eventually we earn our first piece of individual freedom; our car. As with each item before, we are expected to properly maintain our vehicles, from lube and filter service to tire care and beyond. For some people these were considered a point of pride, to take care of something they value. To others it seemed more of a chore, and a bore, but regardless of which side of the fence it fell upon then, years later we have all come to understand the value of maintenance. Here at Accurate Japanese Repair, we take pride in the ability to keep your vehicle running in the best condition possible. Regular and severe duty scheduled maintenance is the gateway to freedom on the road, whether you are commuting or hitting the highway for some down time.

REGARDING SYNTHETIC OILS

It is important to understand what synthetic lubricants can do for your vehicle.

TLDR: In most cases synthetic lubricants can help to reduce wear and extend the life of mechanical systems, such as your vehicle. But it is not magic fluid. Keep up with your scheduled maintenance and your car will be as happy as you.

The technical side:

They are engineered at more precise high and low viscosity performance indexes at operating temperature extremes.

This makes them more stable and less susceptible to evaporative loss, oxidation, thermal breakdown, and sludging.

On paper, the science states that these qualities allow you to extend your service intervals, by more than 500% in some cases (under optimal driving conditions).

Though this may be true if you only ever drive exactly the speed limit, accelerate slowly, don't take trips that are too short or too long,  don't drive in hilly or mountainous terrain, don't tow, don't race, don't deliver pizza...

we recommend sticking to the 3-5,000 mile service interval schedule.

Why? Well, see below.

FOLLOWING A ROUTINE SERVICE SCHEDULE CAN DRASTICALLY EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR INVESTMENT

It is vital to understand the importance of a Lube Oil Filter Service, more commonly known these days as an "oil change".

Drain the oil, and replace the oil filter, fill the motor with new oil. There's your oil change.

With us, standard service is so much more than that.

  • When we have your car on the lift, we also rotate your tires when needed (at no extra cost) to maximize the life of your tires.
  • We determine whether your tires have enough tread depth left to be considered safe to drive.
  • We monitor tire wear patterns between service visits to screen for any possible wheel alignment issues. In most cases, if it's caught early enough, an alignment issue can be fixed before ruining your tires.
  • We inspect your brake system front and back. Whether you have 4 wheel disc brakes or front discs and rear drums with shoes, we make the determination as to the safety and viability of the friction materials that help you stop.
  • We inspect the vehicle suspension systems front and back for any signs of weakening, rust, leaking, or "play" (movement beyond the scope of mechanical specification), including joints, shafts, and bushings, steering linkage, and vehicle stabilization systems.
  • We lubricate all serviceable joints and shafts.
  • We inspect the level and condition of all fluid-assisted systems, and check for signs of leakage
  • Drive-train fluids:
  • FWD - Engine and Transmission
  • RWD - Engine, Transmission and Rear Differential
  • AWD - Engine, Transmission, Transfer Case* and Rear Differential
  • Hybrid AWD - Engine, Transmission, Hybrid Transmission (Or Hybrid Engine)
  • 4WD - Engine, Transmission, Transfer Case, Front and Rear Differential
  • Coolant/Anti-freeze
  • Inverter coolant (Hybrid Vehicles)
  • Power steering fluid
  • Brake fluid
  • Clutch fluid (Manual Transmission)
  • Even your windshield washer fluid
  • We inspect the undercarriage for damage caused by road hazards, impacts, and environmental hazards such as rust and corrosion.

When you bring your car to us for your first service visit, we will discuss what sort of service history you may have kept up with on your vehicle. Has the timing belt (if equipped) been replaced? How about the water pump (with chain motors)? Have you had the spark plugs replaced, or had a valve adjustment done?

If you are unsure, or the car is new to you, we will inspect everything above**, and if any repairs or maintenance related service items are necessary, we will give you an itemized, prioritized estimate. This means that we will let you know what items are vital to functional longevity, which items are worn or misfunctioning, and which items are unsafe or malfunctioning, as well as an estimated timeline for each item.

Now, when you bring your car back for the next "oil change", we will have built this rapport and vehicle history with you, and we will have a clear understanding of what to keep an eye on with each service visit in regards to any previous findings.

An oil change may seem like another trivial ordeal, but it's value goes way beyond the scope of the cost for service. It is a means to protect your investments: your vehicle, your bank account, yourself, your family, the safety and lives of those you share the road with. and their families too. It is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
